Reyes fills in as Cocpo head

- By Alwen Saliring

THE Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (Cocpo) deputy director for administration is taking over as officer-in-charge after city police director Colonel Nelson Aganon figured in a motorcycle crash last May 22.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Renante Reyes, Cocpo’s deputy director for administration, temporarily served as OIC while a full-fledged city director is yet to be designated.

Lieutenant Colonel Surki Serenas, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Northern Mindanao (PRO-10), said by succession, it should be the deputy city director for administration who takes charge.

“It is what we are having right now. It’s PLtCol Reynante Reyes in the meantime, while a fullpledged city director is yet to be designated,” Serenas said.

Serenas said Aganon is still at the Intensive Care Unit of Polymedic Medical Plaza but is already responding well to medication.

“However, doctors still cannot say he is “out from danger” as of late,”he added.

Serenas clarified that

the city police director post is technically not vacant.

But, he said if it would be declared vacant, there are a number of qualified officers who can fill up the vacancy.

“Vacancy usually occur when a unit commander retires or completes the maximum 2-year tour of duty,”Serenas said.

“The case of Cagayan de Oro City is neither of the two cases. The supposed vacancy was not anticipated. Technically, the post is not vacant. For “delicadesa” it is going to be in “bad taste” if someone applies for the position which is not vacant,”he added.
