Pork's farm gate price in MisOr down at P90/kg

- By Jo Ann Sablad

THE Provincial Veterinary Office of Misamis Oriental has reported a decrease in the farm gate price of pork as the temporary ban on the entry of fresh/frozen pork meat and processed pork products from Luzon and other identified African Swine Fever (ASF)-affected areas is still in effect.

Misamis Oriental Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Benjamin Resma said swine producers in some areas in the province were complaining that the pork’s farm gate price went down from P150 to P110 to P90 per kilogram.

“Walay problema sa supply but the demand medyo niubos. Medyo naapektuhan gyud,” Resma said.

However, he added, that the price pork per kilo in supermarkets remains the same.

“Ang Provincial Government gapaningkamot gyud na mohatag og pahibalo sa katawhan. Atong gihimo, nagpasugba, patilaw, aron makita or pahibalo sa mga katawhan nga safe pa gyud ang atong karneng baboy,” Resma said.

“Sa pagkakaron, safe pa gyud kaunon atong karneng baboy,” he added.

On the other hand, prices of chicken and eggs in the province has gone up as the demand for them also increased.

“Kasi pag September going to December usually mataas yan kasi grabi ang demand,” Resma said.

Meanwhile, in Cagayan de Oro, the City Veterinarian Dr. Lucien Anthony Acac said its “business as usual.”

“Wala may ingon pa lugar nga nagluya atong mga pumapalit pagkaon karneng baboy. Padayun gyapon kaon, liempo, litson, humba og uban pang mga luto gikan sa karneng baboy,” Acac said.

According to Acac, the number of slaughtered hogs daily remains to be around 250 to 300 and has not gotten any lesser.

He said it was due to the City Government’s information education campaign that the Kagayanons are still purchasing pork and eating pork dishes.

Makita nato nga ang Kagay-anon, mga tao diri sa Cagayan de Oro, padayon gyapon kaon sa karneng baboy kay nakita man nila through exact information education campaign kun unsa gyud kining ASF, so wala sila mahadlok, at peace sila,” Acac said.
