City starts distribution of relief assistance

-

A TOTAL of 5,023 food packs were distributed by the City Government to eight barangays in Cagayan de Oro yesterday, Wednesday, April 1.

Among the eight barangays were Pigsag-an (132 food packs), Tuburan (126 food packs), Mambuaya (333 food packs), FS Catanico (244 food packs), Iponan (816 food packs), Tumpagon (237 food packs), Pagatpat (658 food packs), Macabalan (1,481 food packs), and Nazareth (996 food packs).

According to City Information Officer Maricel Casino-Rivera, who is also the head of the Risk Communications Cluster, the relief goods were given out to barangay captains for a house-to-house distribution who need the food assistance most.

The food packs consisted of five kilos of rice, five pieces of noodles, five cans of sardines, three cans of corned beef, and three cans of beef loaf.

Previously, Christopher Mike Fabello of CSWD said that there are certain brackets on the number of canned goods and kilos of rice in a food pack depending on the number members in a household.

However, City Mayor Oscar Moreno waved this process to save time. Moreno instead ordered that the number of canned goods and the amount of rice in a food pack should be even.

“Ang akong instruction kay ang panahon man gud dili nato makaya kun ing-ana ang atong sistema sa 80 nga barangay,” Moreno said during the regular press conference on Wednesday.

“Katong minimum number, kana ang atong ihatag and then kato dayong mga dagko’g pamilya, kun gusto nimo nga tagaan, tagaan mo later pero ayaw dungana. Kay kung dunganon mo na naa gyu’y operational problems. Its a nightmare,” he added.

Rivera said the number of food packs that will be distributed depends on the supply of food assistance already prepared by the CSWD.

“Pila ka household ang tibook dakbayan, gitagaan nimo tanan, di na sad practicable ug daghan man diha ang maka afford. Now, didto ka sa prioritization,” Moreno said.

“We’ll just have to prioritize on the basis of information nga available sa ato,” he added. /JAS
