Iligan imposes ‘stricter’ curfew to fight COVID-19, bans selling, consumption of liquor

ILIGAN CITY, Apr. 1 (PIA) -- The city government of Iligan has adjusted the curfew hours in the city to strengthen the enforcement of the enhanced community quarantine in view of the continuous spread of coronavirus.

City Mayor Celso Regencia issued Executive Order No. 34 imposing new curfew hours from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM and prohibiting the selling and consumption of liquor effective March 31.

The new curfew covers both adults and minors except for members of the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Fire Department, Barangay Officials, Barangay Peace Action Team, medical personnel, and duly-accredited frontlines and first responders.

Regencia said the city government has earlier imposed a nightly curfew from 9:00 PM to 5:00 PM but this has proven to be inadequate.

Violations of the curfew and other issuances to prevent the spread of COVID-19 have also been the result of the sale, drinking, and consumption of alcoholic, intoxicating and hard drinks.

As such, Regencia ordered that for the duration of the health emergency, all establishments are prohibited from selling, serving, giving, providing and delivering all kinds and types of alcoholic and intoxicating drinks.

Consumption and drinking of liquor and intoxicating liquids is also strictly prohibited in all public places.

Iligan City has two confirmed

COVID-19 cases as of March 31. The first case is from Lanao del Sur and is currently in a facility quarantine. The new case is a 67 years old female, who was admitted on March 29 due to pneumonia. The patient has pre-existing conditions of DM Type 2, Hypertension Stage 2 and Polycythemia Vera. She has also a history of travel from Makati City, Manila.

Records from the Iligan City Health Emergency Management Surveillance Unit further reveal that as of March 31, only 35 persons remain under monitoring (PUM) while 11 persons are still under investigation (PUI). No new cases of PUM and PUI were also reported as of press time.

Meanwhile, Iligan residents are reminded to call the city government’s hotlines if they suspect anyone who is showing signs and symptoms of COVID-19 such as, but not limited to, a runny nose, sore throat, dry cough, fever, diarrhea, and difficulty in breathing.
