User-friendly mall spaces

- By Karl Aries Emerson F. Cabilao, UAP

MALLS are favourite destinations within the metropolis. They come in almost all shapes and sizes, offering a great variety of items and services to people from all over the city and neighboring towns.

A mall is not just a place for shopping nowadays. It has become a rendezvous for almost all sorts of activities that are related to relaxation and recreation. These places are favorites when it comes to meetings, both serious and casual. Movie theaters have long been integrated into mall designs as well adding up to the long list of must-do activities in these buildings. Want to see your favourite celebrities or perhaps an art exhibit or a car show? One of the malls in the city could be hosting these types of events in the coming weeks.

With all the variegated activities that a mall accommodates, it has adopted a mixed-use type of building function. This means that its architectural design and planning must be carefully considered and of course, be handled by a licensed and registered architect. This is to make sure that not only a beautiful building design and efficient layout of spaces are achieved, but the individual enclosures and areas are being given the right treatment to fit the use of the space and satisfy the needs of its users. Today, Weekend readers talk about their ideas on which spaces in the malls should be designed and planned properly.
