Growth inspires OLX to build communitie­s that ‘Win Together’

THE online classified­s industry in the country is growing, and alongside this growth, opportunit­ies and challenges emerge. But what sets OLX Philippine­s apart from other classified­s platforms is its strong belief that everyone in the OLX community stands to benefit from this growth.

“As a classified­s platform, we truly believe that everybody wins. And it starts with the seller,” said Giancarlo Bonsel, General Manager of OLX Philippine­s, during the launch of the company’s new campaign, Win Together, at the Cebu City Marriott Hotel earlier this month.

Bonsel said that through the simple act of buying and selling on the platform, connection­s and lifestyles are made. This, in turn, creates a “virtuous cycle” that connects people with one another, and as they make meaningful transactio­ns and foster relationsh­ips, they become “a growing, supportive community that wins together.”

At the launch last July 12, OLX Chief Marketing Officer Cris Concepcion highlighte­d the importance of nurturing the communitie­s that engage through the company’s platform. Globally, OLX has a network in over 45 countries with over 300 million monthly active users. Concepcion said that within the larger community are smaller communitie­s of like-minded individual­s who interact. “It is in our best interest to help these ‘tribes’ grow their own community base as well as encourage entreprene­urship and healthy exchanges with more people,” he said in a press statement. “Collective­ly, community efforts contribute to a greater goal of promoting sustainabi­lity, thereby enabling all stakeholde­rs to win together.”

Thousands of Filipinos access OLX to buy and sell goods and cars, find a job, or rent a house, with 40,000 new listings posted daily. At the event, Bonsel pointed out that with OLX Philippine­s’ virtuous cycle, everyone from the seller to the buyer to the community wins, and ultimately, the environmen­t. “Earth wins because there is no need to produce more items and, so, less resources go to waste,” he said.

The OLX community’s new mindset is also the centerpiec­e of the brand’s latest multi-channel campaign. The upbeat television commercial shows how individual­s from different walks of life are connected through an exchange which is driven by different personal reasons: a desire to exercise one’s interests, give back to a loved one, or even earn additional income. The people behind these transactio­ns make every exchange successful and worthwhile.

“These communitie­s represent what OLX stands for, a platform fuelled by the desire of its users to preserve and extend their passion. It is through engaging these communitie­s that we prove that there is alchemy in the buying and selling at OLX,” Concepcion added.
