10 DAILY STRUGGLES DURING THE RAINY SEASON

- Text: Christian Jay B. Quilo Sun Star Writer

Love it or hate it, the rainy season is here. While the sweater weather is balm from the previous month's blistering heat, the recurring rain showers present its own set of challenges. Here are some struggles we've all experienced this time of the year.

COMMUTING IS A PAIN IN THE BUTT.

Rush hour plus the rain means absolute hell for commuters. It's basically Hunger Games out there! The sitch: standing for hours with a horde of fellow commuters, waiting to jump on the next vacant jeepney or taxi that passes by.

FARES ON GRAB SURGE.

If you're loyal to the app then you know that when the rain pours, the fare rises—more or less double the

usual fare wherever you're headed. Which is why it's important to save those precious points and redeem them for desperate times like these.

KEEPING YOUR FEET DRY IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE.

Whether you're wearing sneakers, sandals or heels—it doesn't matter. If you're out to walk, your feet are bound to get wet and water will most likely seep through your footwear. That wet, squishy feeling that comes with every step is just gross. Get a pair of rubber boots. They're not the most pretty pair of footwear but they get the job done.

YOU'LL BE STRANDED AND HAVE NOWHERE TO GO.

Some areas in the city are more flood-prone than others and if you're unlucky and your area becomes an islet in a matter of minutes in a heavy downpour, then you're stranded like a cast member of Lost. You don't want to attempt going in the knee-deep water—trust me. Just wait it out. And maybe pray.

GETTING SICK AND DOWN WITH THE GLOOM.

After getting soaked in the rain, sometimes you can get sniffles or colds, especially if you're the type who gets sick easily. Give your body an immunity boost with some Vitamin C and always bring an umbrella to stay dry.

THERE'S A CHANCE IT'LL ALSO “RAIN” INDOORS.

It's pretty common for houses to have tiny leaks on the ceiling here and there. When it rains, it won't be long before the incessant dropping of water starts—and mind you, the sound can be very annoying. Someone please make it stop!

IT'S THE JUST-ME-AND-MY-BED KIND OF WEATHER.

When it rains early in the morning and the air is cooler than usual, don't you just want to stay in bed all day, snug and warm? But then you realize you have a job to go to and if you succumb to this bed weather, you won't have a job to go to the next day. Ah, reality.

THE "DRY" IN LAUNDRY TAKES LONGER.

Not all of us have dryers and it's very Filipino to hang our clothes out to dry. In regular sunny weather, laundry usually only takes a full day to completely dry but when it rains, it takes days—DAYS. I need my favorite t-shirt to dry, ASAP!

CARS GIVE OUT FREE YET UNSOLICITED SHOWERS.

If you're walking along the sidewalk and cars are about to pass by, you better watch out and take cover because a huge splash may or may not be coming. Imagine getting soaked in gray, murky, smelly street water. Wait, I take it back. Don't imagine it.

GOODBYE, WI-FI.

If the weather went from zero to 100 real quick, then the Wi-Fi is probably going to go cray. There's going to be no double tappin' on Instagram for a while, not until the weather gets better. Since all hope online seems lost, take this time to engage in a face-to-face conversation with someone or pick up a fun book
