MURDER SUSPECT BELIEVED UNSTABLE
THE suspect behind the mauling and murder of a two-year-old toddler has been placed in a separate cell in the Talisay City Jail to prevent him from hurting other detainees.
Chief Insp. Renante Rubio, warden of the Talisay City Jail, said yesterday that due to the suspect’s unstable mental condition, Kienner Baller had to be placed in a cell where he can’t hurt anyone.
The Talisay City Jail warden also sent a letter to Regional Trial Court (RTC) Executive Judge Silvestre Maamo to have Baller undergo a psy- chiatric examination.
Rubio said Baller was brought to their custody at 5 p.m. last Thursday. Upon his arrival at the jail in Barangay Maghaway, Baller was interviewed by Rubio before moving him to his cell.
Calm Rubio said Baller was reportedly calm when he interviewed him yesterday. But when he started to ask questions about his case, Baller told him he couldn’t remember anything.
“Kalma man siya paginterview nako. Pero isog ang iyang tinutukan (He was calm but he gave me angry looks)” Rubio said.
Baller was first detained in the jail’s infirmary together with two sick detainees. Baller was later transferred to another cell when he started interacting with his other inmates yesterday morning, Rubio said.
Rubio noted that during Baller’s first night in jail, he refused to eat his dinner. He ate the morning after.
Security Rubio said they implemented security measures to ensure that Baller doesn’t hurt anyone.
Baller, 36, was charged for the death of Jeffrey Abusejo Jr. outside his home in Barangay Biasong, Talisay City Tuesday afternoon.
Abusejo was reportedly playing outside Baller’s house when the boy slightly touched the suspect’s leg. Baller suddenly picked up Abusejo by the legs and smashed the boy to the ground.
Baller then bit Abusejo’s neck before he was stopped by the boy’s parents and the suspect’s relatives.
The boy died before he could be taken to the hospital.
Baller was arrested and charged.
