SHOP, DINE BY FAITH

- By Kara Noveda

Within the walls of everybody else’s default haven—difference can be made. For the Christian couple, the Boswells, demonstrating one’s faith does not have to end at a preacher’s pulpit. Eager to take their ministry to not-as-tried territory, Rob and Roma Boswell came up with Malakius Art Kaffe.

“Everything in Malakius is a work of love that has been growing for many years in our whole team,” Roma and Rob declared of their monthsold “experiment.” Indeed, Malakius does need figuring out. In sum, it is a café slash study center slash shop for Christian and community-made/ advocacy-driven products.

Actually, there is no nutshell description to Malakius, but Rob Boswell, manager of the ministry component of the shop, provides rich introductory insight: “There is still much entrepreneurial fog that needs to lift before we see our new Malakius perfectly. The meaning of the word Malakius is based off the name Malachi the last book of the Bible’s Old Testament. Malachi means ‘messenger or herald,’ or to a lesser degree in English, it’s like a ‘mailman.’ Look closely and you can postulate that the English word ‘mail’ is a derivative of the old Hebrew word, ‘Malachi.” A little shop-café that brims with positive messages is how you can succinctly put it, if only, in another way.

Good food.

The good word about the café’s good food was what helped Malakius a great deal in its first few weeks. Roma Boswell is whom the other members of the business team credit for, when it comes to menu accomplishments. As a long-time foodie, it was Roma’s occasional baked goodies that earned her friendly prodding to venture into the food biz. In the making of Malakius’ selections, Roma came on full kitchen duty. She delivered. The café is buzzing with requests for their sandwiches and sweets!

Good vibes.

The positive note does not only ooze from the delish servings; but from the multi-functional purpose of the café. Always, the café’s fully-equipped conference room is available for groups who want to have the space for their own for meetings or study sessions. Sometimes, jam breaks, featuring local acoustic artists, enliven things up in the dining area. Malakius is home to local art pieces, handicrafts and evangelical tools.

“We also put livelihood products on display; for sale. We would like the people to realize that each product has its own story to tell,” adds Rob Boswell.
