Mother of PB member dies of pneumonia in hospital

PB Member Grecilda Sanchez says her mother was undergoing rehabilitation for muscle shrinking that confined her to a wheelchair

THE mother of Provincial Board (PB) Member Grecilda Sanchez, Leonarda Padilla Sanchez, 78, died last night in the hospital three days after she was admitted for cough and fever.

Sanchez’s husband, Vice Gov. Greg Sanchez, died of lung cancer two and a half years ago.

PB Member Sanchez, their eldest daughter, said her mother was diagnosed with cough and pneumonia.

But before her confinement, she was undergoing rehabilitation for muscle shrinking that confined her to a wheelchair.

Leonarda, who already had a heart bypass, was still mobile last Oct. 30, said Grecilda.

The next day, she had a fever, so they brought her to the hospital.

Confined At 8 p.m. last Nov. 3, Leonarda died while confined at Chong Hua hospital.

Grecilda said she is happy her mother received the last sacrament of ex- treme unction. She said doctors already told them earlier that her mother would go anytime.

“Paghuman gyud pangadyi og Our Father nihunong na ang iyang heart (Right after the Lord’s Prayer, she died),” said Grecilda.

3 kids Leonarda and Vice Governor Sanchez had three children-Grecilda, Leodegreco and Gerlyda, who now lives in Canada.

They expect her to arrive in the country on Thursday.

Grecilda said they are planning to bury their mother next to their father’s grave at the Mactan Memorial Garden in LapuLapu City on Sunday.

Leonarda is a grandchild of Katipunero Candido Padilla, a local hero from whom C. Padilla St. in Barangay Mambaling got its name.

Tiburcio Padilla, the brother of Candido, also has a street named after him in Barangay Day-as, Cebu City, the T. Padilla St.
