MANILA—Vice Ganda and Lea Salonga reacted on the issue of giving non-singer celebrities the opportunity to record an album.

“Do not hate people. Ano man ang ginagawa nila? Unang-una, wala namang nilabag na batas. Why will you hate people na wala namang nilalabag na batas? Hindi naman inapakan ang karapatang-pantao mo,” Vice Ganda said in an interview with dzMM on Monday.

Vice Ganda admitted that people continue to buy and support his albums despite his being a nonprofessional singer. “Libre namang mangarap,” Vice Ganda added. The Kapamilya host/actor said everyone has a right to reach for his dreams. Vice Ganda also said people like him can help revitalize the local music industry.

Singer Lea Salonga, who starred in hit Broadway musical Miss Saigon, admitted she also lip-synced in some of her performances.

“It doesn’t mean naman na hindi ako ang kumakanta and given my track record, I think people know that I can sing. Minsan nagkakasakit din. Talagang wala kang magagawa,” she said.

Salonga, who once commented on Anne Curtis’ singing, said producers and singers should create something that sells.

The issue started when singer Rhap Salazar lashed out at lipsyncing artists on July 5.

“I hate seeing artists lipsyncing on TV,” he said. “Yung iba nagkaka-album pa.”

He clarified though that his tweet was not directed at James Reid and Nadine Lustre, whose respective albums recently achieved the gold record.

“Those tweets are not for JaDine. Yung ibang tao kasi nag- mention agad na sila yun. Pero hindi naman talaga. Hope everything’s clear now,” Salazar said.
