MCWD acquires 3 water trucks

-

THE Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) recently acquired three additional water trucks to be used mainly in times when the water utility has insufficient supply of piped water to its consumers.

This usually happens during power outage, an upgrading work or deficit in water production.

Each truck has a 10-cubic-meter capacity and costs P5.1 million each supplied by the winning bidder, TKC Heavy Industries Corp. These water trucks are automaticdesigned and will only take 10 to 15 minutes to pump out water to the consumer’s tank.

Before these new water trucks were purchased, MCWD already has three trucks, with a capacity of 14 cubic meters, eight cubic meters and five cubic meters which are used daily in delivering water to areas with low pressure to no water especially during summer where water production is low.

In the first semester of 2016, the demand for water truck delivery was high due to the dry spell and minimal rainfall caused by the El Niño phenomenon.

MCWD had to send water trucks to deliver water to key accounts like hotels, condominiums and malls, among others, to meet their daily requirement for water.

Also in summer, the Production and Distribution Department (PDD) had to resort to water truck delivery to some of the thirsty areas like Busay, Sambag and Lahug for the residents to have access to water.

According to PDD officer-incharge Engr. Edgar Ortega, the water trucks are to be used as backup only. Piped water should be the main source of water of MCWD’s consumers.

It is the PDD that will oversee the operations of these trucks so any requests for water truck delivery should have its approval.
