Quiapo road rage suspect arrested in Masbate
MANILA— Army reservist Vhon Martin Tanto, the suspect behind the road rage shooting of a cyclist in Quiapo, was arrested in East Milagros, Masbate yesterday morning.
Tanto was arrested at 11:45 a.m. by operatives of the Philippine Army’s Counter-Intelligence Unit, said Col. Marcelo Burgos.
Tanto shot dead Mark Vincent Garalde last July 25 in P. Casal St. in Quiapo following a heated spat and brawl Monday night.
The victim allegedly came into blows with Tanto after the latter’s car, a red Hyundai Eon, accidentally bumped Garalde’s bicycle.
An 18-year-old girl, who was nearby, was also critically wounded after being hit by stray bullets.
Sr. Supt. Joel Coronel, acting director of Manila Police District (MPD) said yesterday that Tanto will be turned over to MPD today.
Coronel said that since there was only one flight from Legaspi, the suspect will be transported via land with travel time of 16-18 hours and expected to arrive in MPD around 9 or 10 a.m. today.
He said the suspect was brought to Region 5 headquarters in Legaspi, Albay.
