Halsey suffered miscarriage last year
Singer Halsey dropped a bombshell in an interview with Rolling Stones magazine: She suffered a miscarriage last year.
Halsey shared the news because the article’s writer, Alex Morris, wrote about suffering a miscarriage last year.
“I felt like I was suffocating reading that article. Like someone put a shopping bag over my head. I didn’t want to meet you at all. I was really terrified of you, because I knew as soon as I saw you, I was going to need to tell you that last year on tour I got pregnant,” Halsey told Morris.
Halsey, without going into specifics about the pregnancy, said that she was in a hotel room in Chicago, just hours before taking the stage, when she learned she was pregnant. It was also shortly before her album
Badlands was released. “What happens? Do I lose my record deal? Do I lose everything? Or do I keep (the pregnancy)? What are the fans going to think? What are the moms going to think? What is the Midwest going to think? What’s (expletive) everyone going to think?” were the questions that went through the young singer’s mind.
Before she could figure out what she could do, she started bleeding.
She continued: “I’m like, ‘I have to cancel this show!’ No one knew what to do.”
Most performers would say: the show must go on. And that’s exactly what happened. Halsey sent her assistant to buy some adult diapers as she popped two painkillers and went onstage.
“It’s the angriest performance that I’ve ever done in my life. That was the moment of my life where I thought to myself, ‘I don’t feel like a (expletive) human being anymore,’” she also said.
Halsey is only 21, but she’s already been through a lot.
According to the Rolling Stone article, Halsey was drinking rosé at one in the afternoon while doing the interview—which could be why she revealed too much in the expletive-laden interview.
She was born Ashley Nicolette Frangipane. Halsey is an anagram of her first name.
“I didn’t like being Ashley Frangipane. It was a person I thought was weak and silly and sad,” the
Colors singer remembered. She was discovered at 19 when she uploaded a video of herself singing an original song in social media. But she doesn’t want to be known as a social media phenomenon: “I wasn’t a social-media kid. I wasn’t a Viner, a YouTuber, a blogger, anything. I was just someone that people found minutely more interesting than the average person.”
At 17, Halsey attempted suicide with the use of painkillers. But this is common knowledge since she tweeted about this. Her parents committed her to a psychiatric ward where she was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
