Last hurrah Cebu’s Cabusas, Buyco to compete in last event of World Youth Ch’ship

CEBU's bowlers Xyrra Cabusas and GJ Buyco will gear up for the final event—the team of four—in the 14th World Youth Bowling Championsh­ips at the Sun Valley Lanes in Lincoln, Nebraska today.

The PHL will be represente­d by Buyco, Louis Miguel Cantorna, Gospel Gahol and Ivan Malig in the men's division, while the women's division will have Cabusas, Rjoy-Daval-Santos, Rica Macatula and Bea Hernandez.

Cabusas played alongside Santos in the women's doubles last Friday and finished 37th in the women's ranking. The duo scored a total of 1,983 pinfalls with an average of 165.25. Cabusas scored 1,058 and Santos contribute­d 925.

The tandem of Cabusas and Santos had 374 in the third game as the day's best and was followed by 352 and 331 in the second and sixth game. The lowest score for the duo was 299 in the first game.

In the men's doubles, Buyco and Cantorna were ranked 45th with 2,250 pin- falls and an average of 187.50. Buyco scored 1,121 while Cantorna carded 1,129. The duo had a best score of 400 and lowest at 345.

The US won the men's doubles over Malaysia in the finals match, while South Korea outlasted USA in the women's doubles finals.

Cabusas and Buyco, both from University of San Carlos, have also played in the singles event last Wednesday. Cabusas had 1,079 and was ranked 29th in the Squad A and 55th in women's overall position. Buyco, on the other hand, scored 1,113 with an average of 185.50 and was in the 96th in the men's division.

Gazmine Mason of USA (211) defeated Victoria Chin of Malaysia (207) in the women's singles finals, while American Wesley Low Jr. (224) beat Qatar's Mohammed Al Merekhi (134) in the men's singles finals.

The 14th World Youth Bowling Championsh­ips fired off last July 24 and will end on Aug. 3. RSC
