No tinted windows on CH vehicles: Alcover

SAYING it violates the policy of transparency and accountability of public officials, Cebu City Councilor Pastor Alcover Jr. wants to ban the usage of tinted glass panels in all City Government-owned and -issued vehicles.

During the City Council’s regular session last week, Alcover filed a pro- posed ordinance prohibiting the use of tinted glass panels and plastic films or any material that tampers the original form of any City-owned vehicle.

He also wants to have the current tinted materials installed on safety glasses, windscreen and windows immediately removed.

“Furthermore, no such vehicle shall be allowed to lower the Visual Light Transmission percentage or otherwise make it darker,” Alcover said.

The councilor ordered the Cebu City Police Office and the Cebu City Transportation Office to effectively implement the ordinance, if approved.

He filed the proposed law after observing that City-owned and -issued vehicles have been using tinted glass panels for quite sometime now.

“Cebuanos believe that these tinted glass panels in these City Governmentowned and issued vehicles are being used as way to conceal or prevent the people from viewing who are those inside these vehicles and what are the activities therein,” he said.

The council referred Alcover’s ordinance to the committee on laws for review and recommendation.
