Councilor pushes new SRP routes
Guardo wants LTFRB to conduct study on possible addition of routes
TO provide more options to the riding public, the Cebu City Council wants the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to conduct a study for a new public transport route at the South Road Properties (SRP).
In his approved resolution, Councilor Jerry Guardo asked the office to conduct a road monitoring capacity survey for SRP.
The road monitoring capacity survey will determine if additional public route will still be needed in a certain area.
Guardo said more passengers now are going to SRP because of the new establishments there, which include the SM Seaside.
Due to limited transport, Guardo said the public end up riding taxis, MyBus and motorcycles-for-hire.
MyBus is a group of buses that transport passengers from certain points of origin to SM Seaside and towards Talisay City.
Guardo pointed out in his resolution that most of the passengers choose to ride motorcycles-for-hire, which he sees as a public safety concern.
“Considering that this situation created a public concern over safety and convenience to the riding public, much less to families who would like to experience the attractions and scenery of these locators in the area, thus a need for a public transportation is really a necessity,” he said.
Guardo said that for the Council to come up with a request for additional franchise in the area, a study should be done first.
The LTFRB is expected to give the City Council the result of their study.
