PAINTED EMOTIONS
Emotions have the potential to urge one to create something beautiful. Artists have the skill to allow these emotions to flow through, creating one masterpiece after the other. Some revisit images in their heads and recollect emotions that were once felt a long time ago.
Alongside self-expression, a mixture of varying techniques and skills of five emerging Cebuano visual artists is what the recent exhibit of Cebu Artists Inc. (CAI) entitled August Melange displayed in Ayala Center Cebu.
Arnel Belda, Efren Enolva, Rhoda Cruzet, Lucilo Jojo Sagayno and Marlone Ylanan are the younger and newly added members of CAI. The organization was founded by artist Celso Pepito in 1993, and the artworks of its members are displayed to the public every month to promote awareness to people of the thriving art industry in Cebu.
The 36 artworks exhibited for August Melange which will be displayed until Aug. 31 not only serve as opportunities for the artists to challenge themselves in their craft but also provide the audience the opportunity to smell the flowers once in a while.
“In this urban jungle, the serenity that art
brings is seldom experienced and at the very least, artists even in small groups try to reach out to people and to also incite those who have a hidden desire for art,” said Cruzet.
Artworks have spread like wildfire in Cebu. What used to be a regular event in galleries and museums only are now also available in venues like malls, with passersby connecting with the art in an intimate level; with the emotions painted on canvas that are given much more meaning and depth.
“We know the mall is a very unlikely place to see paintings; it can be expected in museums or galleries. But in the malls we can reach out to more people and encourage them to participate because they would see the thriving activities in relation to the art industry,” said Cruzet.
August Melange is located on the third level of Ayala Center Cebu.
