Fetuses found in Cebu, Toledo

- JOB

TWO dead fetuses were found in Cebu City and Toledo City yesterday, one under a bridge, the other in a landfill.

Rommel Bancog, homicide investigator of the Cebu City Police Office, said they received an alarm at 9:30 a.m. about a fetus in the Inayawan landfill.

“Didto na namo gikuha ang puya sa guard house kay nakaykayan sulod sa plastic sa mga scavenger (We got the fetus from the guard house after it was found by scavengers),” Bancog told Sun.Star Cebu.

The fetus was a male, estimated to be six to seven months old and with dark complexion.

Bancog said the fetus was believed to have been thrown in a garbage bin somewhere in the city and transported to the landfill.

The fetus’s umbilical cord was still on him when he was found by the scavengers in the area.

Four hours later, another male fetus was found under the bridge over Sapangdaku creek in Barangay Dumlog, Toledo City yesterday afternoon.

At 1 p.m., people passing by the bridge on their way to a mall were shocked when they found the fetus with its umbilical cord still attached.

Miscarriage

PO3 Carlos Barluedo of the Toledo Police said that there were no known abortionist in the area, or any woman who had a miscarriage.

“Gilabay ra gikan sa taytayan. Maayo gani natunong sa yuta kay kung didto pa to kilid sa may tubig, na, lisod na gyod to makit-an (Good thing it was on the dried-up section of the creek because if it was thrown into the waters, it would have been hard to find),” he said.

The fetus was brought to the City Health Hospital by a rescue unit.

The picture of the male fetus was shared on Facebook and gained 2,000 reactions, most of them condemning the crime.

A netizen commented that its mother may have been raped and did not want the pregnancy.
