The Man with the Drive

- By Hannah V. Obal

At the young age of 32, Ryan Lim has worked very hard to get where he is now.

Ryan is currently the Operations Manager of Autocentral Groups’ Subaru brand in Cebu, but his beginnings in the company was a humble one.

“I started as a sales agent and join the company in 2007,” Ryan said in an interview. “The name then was Central Autochina and we sold Chinese brands of commercial and passenger vehicles.”

Come 2008, Ryan was promote to Sales Supervisor, and when Subaru entered the picture in 2009, Ryan was given the task to handle both the China brands and Subaru. “My boss thought it was within my capacity to handle both.” Ryan explained. But Ryan’s love for Subaru intensified, management allowing him to handles Subaru exclusively. He’s been with the company since then and soon became the Operations Manager for Subaru Cebu. Cagayan, Iloilo, and the upcoming Subaru Bacolod. Ryan attributes his success and learnings to his mentor-slash-boss. Being a collaborative leader, Ryan sets the direction but allows an individual or employee of his the freedom to execute it.

With the competition between brands being evident, Ryan takes the challenge in stride.

“The competition has become exciting to the point of it being exhilarating.” he said. “People saw cars before as a need, a necessity that should be cheap and at the very least, presentable. Now, a car purchase identifies with a person’s lifestyle, cost now a secondary criterion, because of the easy payment schemes made available by our bank partners. It’s a great time in the industry.”

And at Subaru, meeting the clients want, need, or dream is absolutely possible with their cars that are fast, stylish, sensibly affordable, and safe.

Ryan desires that Subaru Cebu continues to grow and become a leading premium brand, and above that, he wants the Cebu market to understand Subaru for what it truly is.

“I want to make it a household name as the most fun car that’s the safest in the world to drive. Subaru can keep your loved ones safe, it can keep the Cebuanos safe on any road condition.”

With plans to introduce their new global platform, Ryan is excited about the future of Subaru.

“The program promises to improve our lineup’s driving dynamics, ride, and safety.”

And with Subaru already sporting five-star ratings, it comes as no surprise that Subaru is on its way to even more greatness, and with Ryan at the helm of, Subaru Cebu will surely get there sooner than anticipated.
