Derilo, Ylanan show up at drug hearing

POLICE officers Rex Derilo and George Ylanan appeared before the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) in Camp Crame yesterday to submit themselves to the investigation after they were named as drug protectors.

Lawyer Inocencio dela Cerna, their counsel, was with the two police officials. He said due process was observed yesterday during the hearing.

Dela Cerna said they already have copies of affidavits against Derilo and Ylanan and are set to submit their counter-affidavits within 10 days.

“We’re looking very good. That’s how confident we are on these baseless and malicious allegations,” dela Cerna said in a text message.

He said the allegations against his clients are all hearsay.

Dela Cerna said that after his clients’ appearance and the submission of the counter-affidavits, CIDG will wrap up their investigation.

Derilo and Ylanan, who were the former chiefs of Regional Intelligence Division (RID) and Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) of Police Regional Office (PRO) 7, respectively, were accused of being drug protectors by selfconfessed drug lord Franz Sabalones.

They were among the 18 policemen summoned by CIDG yesterday after Sabalones accused them of receiving protection money from him.

CIDG has been authorized by the Internal Affairs Service of Camp Crame to investigate the matter after a illegal drug matrix that revealed names of police officers and one member of Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) was released.

Dela Cerna earlier said they plan to file charges against and seek P10 million in damages from Sabalones, or whoever made the accusation.

Aside from the civil suit for damages, dela Cerna said they’re also contemplating on filing a libel case against Sabalones and those who connived with him in orchestrating the allegations.

Dela Cerna said his clients are good police officers who didn’t have derogatory records while in service.
