Limos rules century

Limos hailed fastest girl in Batang Pinoy again; Erediano carries Cebu Prov. with 3 golds

TAGUM City—Team Cebu City leaned on its finesse and speedy athletes to improve their medal ranking after Day 3 of competitio­n in the 2016 Batang Pinoy National Championsh­ips here at the DavNor Sports and Tourism Complex yesterday.

Cebu City amassed eight gold medals, six silvers and two bronze medals in the dancesport competitio­n at the Rotary Park Gym, while the taekwondo squad added five gold medals to go along with a silver and bronze in the poomsae event at the New Tagum City Hall.

Cebu City also nabbed five gold medals last Monday in archery, weightlift­ing and karatedo last Monday.

In an unofficial medal tally as of 5 p.m. yesterday, Cebu City has 23 gold medals, seven silver medals and four bronze medals, while Cebu Province has a 4-4-4 medal tally. Athletics added two gold medals coming from the girls’ 13 to 15 and boys’ 15 to 17 100-meter dash.

Samantha Gem Limos of Team Cebu City and Moira Frances Erediano of Cebu Province were among the individual athletes who shone the brightest on the third day of competitio­n.

Over at the tracks, Limos, 14, was again hailed as the fastest runner in the event after topping the girls’ 13 to 15 100-meter dash in 12.41 seconds. Limos holds the record in the event after she clocked 12.48 in Cebu last year. The organizers will double check if she has reset the record since the race yesterday was wind-assisted.

The student of University of Cebu (UC) inked the event’s 100m record after clocking 12.48 in Cebu last year. She pulled off a faster time in the finals yesterday to reset the best time to 12.41. Limos, a double gold medalist in the 2016 Palarong Pambansa, also clocked 12.39 in the semis last Monday.

“It feels so nice and fulfilling to win again in Batang Pinoy. I’m happy because I got my goal,” Limos told Sun.Star Cebu in Cebuano. “I really prepared for this race. Before the race I was really pressured because there are a lot of expectatio­ns of me as the defending champion.”

“This is my second straight year to win the event and I’m happy with my performanc­e,” said Limos, who will be gearing up in the finals of the 200m today.

Erediano, meanwhile, won her third gold medal in the girls’ 11 to 12 duathlon event. Erediano, a first-timer in the Batang Pinoy Championsh­ips, was the first triple gold medalist from Cebu.

The student of Sacred Heart SchoolAten­eo de Cebu (SHS-AdC) did the 1.5K run 1, 6K bike and 1.5K run 2 in 25 minutes and 10 seconds. Erediano got out of the water in 5:52, finished the bike segment in 11:50 and completed the run portion in 7:28.

Jeanna Mariel Cañete, also from Cebu Province, came second in 27:57, while Aliyah Dianne Gregorio of General San- tos City settled for third in 28:13.

Cebu City’s Seth Abraham Pilapil was the fastest in the 100-meter dash, finishing the race in 11.26. Rodolfo Aldonza Jr. of Muntinlupa City came second in 11.27 and Joviane Calxto of Laguna was third with 11.29.

Cebu Province’s Matthew Justine Hermosa (27:05) came second in the boys’ 11 to 12. San Pedro, Laguna’s Zedrick James Borja (24:39) won the race, while Jiullano Nicolo Jose (29:27) of Davao City was third.

Karen Andrea Manayon added a silver medal in the girls’ 13 to 15 after completing the 3K run 1, 12K bike and 1.5K run course in 38:13. Laguna’s Lauren Justine Plaza (38:09) topped the race and Everly Janirie Macalalad (40:59) of Muntinlupa City was third.

In dancesport, the double gold medalists were partners Lloyd Simon Asuque and Raylyn Jhea Romeo in the Standard Junior C and Latin Junior C division; and Andrew Ysla and Noelyn Mie Pedrano in the Standard Youth A and Latin Youth A.

Jim Jocson and Mitchloni Dinauanano won the gold medal in Standard Juvenile A; Jaydel Fresh Pat and Angel Therese Epe in the Latin Juvenile A; Gylle Nino Diluvio and Julia Paz Branzuela in the Standard Junior A; and Jake Emmanuel Corro and Anndreah Kiem Capangpang­an in the Latin Junior A.

The silver medalists were Don Montecillo and Shaniel Neustra Hernandez in the Standard Juvenile C and Latin Juvenile C; Carl Nathanyl Papellero and Kim Jocson in the Standard Junior C; Crispin Sato and Yeddah Marie Castanares in Standard Youth C and Latin Youth C; Jaydel Fresh Pat and Angel Therese Epe in Standard Juvenile A; and Gylle Nino Diluvio and Julia Paz Branzuela in the Latin Junior A.

Bronze medalists were Carl Nathanyl Papellero and Kim Jocson in Latin Junior C; Chrys Ymerick Pikotas and Kate Noelle Piliotas in Standard Youth C; Jack Emmanuel Corro and Anndreah Kiem Capangpang­an in the Standard Junior A.

In taekwondo, Cebu City athletes showed superb execution to snag medals in the poomsae event.

Nichole Maurin of University of Cebu Basic Education Department (USC-Bed) won in the girls’ Junior division and Shane Nasayao and Lee Navales of USCBed reigned in the pair Junior. Johann Concepcion and Nohea Dela Fuente, also from USC-Bed, topped the cadet pair.

Aidaine Lava, Nichole Maurin and Lee Navales won in Team Junior, while Romeo Reyes Nohea Dela Fuente and Johann Concepcion topped Team Cadet.

Nasayao also won silver in the boys’ individual junior, while Romeo Reyes pocketed the bronze medal in the boys’ individual cadet.

In weightlift­ing, June Mark Padayhag of Cebu Province snagged a silver medal in the 12-under 36kg category.
