Escort guard Armando Dinglasa faces investigation for allegedly being remiss of his duties

A PROVINCIAL jail inmate who is suffering from stage four cancer in the salivary gland escaped while confined at the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center (VSMMC) last Saturday morning.

After more than two days of searching, a team of jail personnel recaptured escapee Efren Cabaral Lariosa, 27, in his hometown in Minglanilla, Cebu. He is now placed in the jail’s solitary cell.

CPDRC warden Dr. Gil Macato placed escort guard Armando Dinglasa under investigation for allegedly being remiss of his duties.

Dinglasa also failed to report the escape promptly as he attended to a relative who was also hospitalized at the VSMMC.

A day before Lariosa’s escape, a woman reportedly visited him last Friday. Lariosa had a leg chain but it was only secured with an allen wrench screw.

Dinglasa was assigned to guard Lariosa from 11 p.m. Friday, up to 7 a.m. the following day. Lariosa was believed to have escaped at around 6 a.m.

Based on the notes of the nurse on duty, Lariosa was still in bed at 3 a.m.

He went to a comfort room at 4 a.m. He was seen sitting on his bed at 5 a.m.

At 6:15 a.m. his bed was already empty. He left his detainee uniform. The leg chain was found under his bed.

Macato said that Lariosa’s female visitor may have been able to sneak in a wrench to unscrew his leg chain.

Macato said that Dinglasa reported the incident at 9:30 a.m., or about three hours after Lariosa’s escape was found out.

A manhunt was immediately launched.

By Monday afternoon, the team of jail guards got a tip that Lariosa was in Barangay Vito.

He was reportedly sleeping on top of a concrete water tank near the boundary of Barangay Candulawan.

Jail guards waited until Monday midnight before they swooped down on Lariosa, who did not resist arrest.

“Giingngan kuno siya sa doctor nga mamatay gihapon siya bisan magpa- opera (He was reportedly told by his doctor that he would still die even if he decides to undergo an operation),” said Macato.

Macato said that Lariosa decided to undergo surgery at the VSMMC.

Prosecutor Richard Abangan in his case information stated that in October 2015 Lariosa broke inside Evangelical Free Child Development Center Inc. and stole one central processing unit worth P25,000 and an automatic voltage regulator worth P500.

In December 2015, Regional Trial Court Judge Jacinto Fajardo Jr. sentenced Lariosa to two years and four months imprisonment for “robbery with force upon things.” His jail term was supposed to end in April 2018.
