Knowles, exec win national awards for health, safety drive
A CEBU-BASED firm and one of its executives were recognized by the Department of Labor and Employment’s (Dole) Occupational Health and Safety (OSH) Center during the 10th GKK national awarding held recently in Quezon City.
Knowles Electronics (Philippines) Corp. won the National Gawad Kaligtasan and Kalusugan (GKK) gold award (industry category), while Knowles environment health and safety (EHS) manager Oliver Z. Abelgas was declared national GKK grand champion (individual category).
The 10th GKK awarding was held last Nov. 18 after the 15th National Occupational Safety and Health Congress at the OSH Center in Quezon City.
The GKK is a biennial national award given by the Dole in recognition of the outstanding achievements of es- tablishments and individuals in terms of responding to the safety and health needs of workers, workplaces and the community. The GKK is a component of the Zero Accident Program, one of Dole’s flagship programs.
The selection for the 2016 GKK Award has become more stringent with the two-tiered scheme where applicants had to pass more levels of scrutiny than previous years. Regional GKK champions underwent a final judging and deliberation last September to determine the national GKK champions.
Knowles Philippines said that it was a great honor to have been recognized as a benchmark and role model of health and safety in the Philippines, especially that it was the first time for the company to vie for such an award.
