The best day, time to hit the scales

- ZOSIMO T. LITERATUS, R.M.T.

The beauty with diversity is that people tend to something in different ways, in different times. In hitting the scales to find out gains and losses in the previous week or two, there is always the scientifically best time to do it. And, yet, the best time for one person may not be the best time for another. Because, diversity.

There are two factors that you must consider in choosing the best time for your weight scale date: Eating level and activity level.

If you take your weights during days with the most parties you attend, you can get a weight error of overestimating your weight. If you take it in your most famished days, such as your most busy days of the week wherein you tend to forget your breakfast or lunch, then you will underestimate your correct weight level. The best day must be the day when you are eating normally; that is, you are eating without overeating or undereating.

Your activity level is as important as well. The scientific logic is, the more activities you engage in, the more weight you burn off and vice versa. Thus, the busiest days in your week are the worst days to measure your weight. The best day then is the day when you are only moderately hurried or physically spent.

On average, most people tend to be highly active or busy at the beginning two days of the week and at the weekend. The first two days can also be the days you may tend to skip a meal or two due to traffic issues alone, not to mention carried over workloads from the previous week. Conversely, weekends tend to be both highly active and opportunities for overeating as socialization often becomes possible during these last two days of the week. Those working in the public sector understand this difference very well as those in the private sector may still have to report for office to meet the standard six-day work requirement in the country.

Thus, the best day to set your weight date will be on a Wednesday. You can have all the time to take things leisurely, standing on your home’s weight scale and perhaps reading this article, which just came off the press.

Henry David Thoreau had been quoted writing: “He enjoys true leisure who has time to improve his soul’s estate.”

We can add to that “his physical health’s estate.”
