Woman, 50, to face trial for drugs

-

THREE women from Cebu City, including a 50-year-old drug suspect, are facing criminal charges for possession and sale of illegal drugs in this city.

The Office of the Cebu City Prosecutor found evidence to charge Jackieline Abesia, Eilesse Angeli Tam, and Amalia Degamo Daño with violation of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

Police arrested the three accused in separate anti-illegal drugs operations in Cebu City last month.

Authorities arrested Abesia in a buy-bust in Barangay Pasil last Sept. 22.

Taboan Police were roving on L. Flores St. when they chanced upon Abesia who, at that time, was allegedly checking on a sachet of shabu.

Police seized from her a sachet of alleged shabu weighing 4.97 grams. She was charged with possession of dangerous drugs.

Likewise, the police arrested Tam in a buy-bust in Sitio Don Bosco, Barangay Apas last Sept. 20.

The operation came after the police received information from a confidential informant about the illegal activity of a certain Lee Mackie Legaspi in the area.

The police carried out the operation after they confirmed that Tam was selling illegal drugs.

But Legaspi escaped during the operation because she jumped out of the window. After failing to catch Legaspi, the police further went inside the subject’s house where they noticed Tam, who was frisked as part of standard procedure.

Police seized from Tam one small sachet and a drug paraphernalia.

The prosecutor recommended P200, 000 bail each for the temporary liberty of Abesia and Tam.

However, no bail was recommended for 50-yearold Daño, who was arrested in a buy-bust in Barangay Ermita last Nov. 20.

Operatives of the Carbon Police Station carried out the operation after receiving tips about Daño’s drug trade. Police also seized from Daño sachets of shabu weighing .9 grams.
