Super Box of Super Food

We’re down to the last few Fridays of the year (I know; it went by really fast for me, too). Instead of doing my usual December routine of suggesting holiday looks, I’m going to share some of my beauty superlatives: the best, the most etc., starting today with the best products I discovered in 2016. I don’t mean that these are all new, but I encountered these products for the first time this year, tried them and loved them.

• Best Skin Care I’ve never found an eye cream that did anything for my perpetually dark circles, until the Origins GinZing Refreshing eye cream. It does not make dark circles disappear completely, but I found myself wondering what was different about my eyes and realized that my shadows are no longer as dark as they used to be. It does take a long time to notice a difference–I was more than halfway through the jar–but I’m happy to finally have found something effective. I don’t know where to buy Origins in Cebu but it is available in Manila and in popular destinations. (Thank you, Kuya, for getting me this in Hong Kong!) Make sure you get enough sleep and stay hydrated, which will help prevent dark shadows.

• Best Face Product I have a full review of this on my blog, but I’ll just share briefly that this is such a great colorless powder for setting makeup. It will not cake and cements makeup in place way better than other powders I’ve spent more than double on. Any skin type needs RCMA No Color Powder.

• Best Cheek Product Don’t hate me because I know it’s very expensive, but fortunately or unfortunately, the hype is real about Becca Shimmering Skin Perfectors. These come in liquid, cream or powder, but I’ve only tried the powder formula. At first, the highlighter goes on quite strong and obvious, but give it a little time to wear and settle. You will look like you have smooth, luminous skin without looking like an Oscar or a disco ball. You need only a small amount for each use, so there’s probably enough highlighter in the Becca x Jaclyn Hill palette to last me until I’m 70. If not done well, highlighters can be too shimmery and chunky on the skin and make pores appear larger. This is a really good formulation that is none of those but is just gorgeous, glowy, noticeable but believable.

• Best Brow Product I still love Maybelline Define-a-Brow pencil, but I find NYX Cosmetics Micro Brow pencil a little easier to use. This is such a tiny pencil that you can really feather in your brows without them looking like they’re just two blocks of color sitting on your forehead. I love that I can twist down this pencil when you’re finished, which you can’t do with the Maybelline one.

See you next week for the rest of my personal beauty best in 2016!
