Security for Miss U candidates visiting Cebu in place—police

-

THE Police Regional Office ( PRO) 7 will provide security to the delegates of Miss Universe 2017 who are expected to visit several tourist spots in Cebu on Tuesday.

Senior Superintendent Rey Lyndon Lawas, PRO 7 deputy regional director for operations, said the Miss Universe candidates are planning to visit Oslob in the southern part of Cebu, which is known for its whaleshark watching, among others.

Lawas said they were told that 10 to 15 delegates will come to Cebu.

The candidates will also have a photo shoot in a resort in Lapu-Lapu City next month.

Aside from the pageant, the police officer said the PRO 7 is also preparing the security for next year’s Sinulog celebration, which will be held on the third Sunday of January.

Lawas said the police do not have to stay longer on the streets if the street dancing during the grand parade will be shortened.

He also said there will be less traffic in the city if the street parties will be banned by the City Government.

“This is a welcome development for us so that our concerns will be fewer compared to the previous years where we deploy police personnel even up to early morning the following day because of the street parties,” he said.

Mayor Tomas Osmeña earlier said he wants the grand parade to end as early as 4 p.m. He will also not allow street parties for peace and order concerns.

Lawas went on to say that they will conduct trainings and simulation exercises in order to prevent any terrorism plot.

“We will prepare for the worst,” he said.

The Central Visayas is still under full alert following the Davao City bombing last September.

Lawas said, though, the region remains safe from any threats.
