MOST INFLUENTIAL TWITTER MOMENTS

-

The year was a special one for Filipinos to join the global conversations on Twitter as well as for the Philippines to start global conversations on the world’s largest live communications platform.

The country’s trending moments became global conversations on Twitter, be it the national elections (Top Moment of the Year on Twitter), fan support for global phenomenon AlDub (Alden Richards and Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza) and television show Otwol (On the Wings of Love), school pride during the UAAP (University Athletic Association of the Philippines), the controversial burial of former president Marcos and the devastation brought by Super Typhoon Lawin. The Twitter community in the Philippines cheered on when Filipino talents earned the spotlight at KCA (Kid’s Choice Awards), K-pop band BTS held a concert and launched a global Twitter competition, national pride surged at the homecoming of Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, and when Filipino boxing legend Manny Pacquiao came out victorious on both his retirement and comeback fights.

The first-ever live, on-screen debates among the presidential and vice-presidential candidates drew millions of Filipinos to Twitter with

Twitter wraps the year with a special emoji so people can share the biggest moments and memories of 2016. When one tweets with the #ThisHappened hashtag from now until Jan. 5, the special Twitter emoji will appear with the tweet.

From global and national news that took the world by storm, to politics, sports and entertainment that made waves, Twitter remained the epicenter of all happenings. Here’s a look at the #YearOnTwitter in 2016 for the Philippines:
