38T seniors in Mandaue, Lapu get aid

-

IN time for Christmas, Mandaue City and LapuLapu City are distributing cash assistance to 38,000 senior citizens.

In Mandaue, Councilor Demetrio Cortes Jr., chair of the committee on social services, said there is a high possibility that financial assistance for senior citizens will increase once the revenue of the city increases.

Mandaue has 16,474 senior citizens who were given cash based on the City’s Office of the Senior Citizens Affairs (Osca).

The City Government started yesterday the distribution of P2,000 as the third tranche of the City’s cash assistance to the elderly of its 27 barangays.

In an interview, Cortes said the senior citizens are entitled to receive P6,000 cash assistance from the City yearly.

The first tranche was given last May while the second was given last August.

Senior citizens from the Barangays Cambaro, Centro, Guizo and Mantuyong were the first batch to receive the money at the Mandaue City Sports Complex yesterday afternoon.

City Mayor Gabriel Luis Quisumbing led the distribution.

“Anha gyod na padung. Di man na ingong mo-decrease (The financial assistance for the elderlies will increase). As our income of the City increases, our financial assistance also increases,” said Cortes.

Barangays Ibabao-Estancia, Basak, Jagobiao, Canduman, Maguikay and Cabancalan will get their cash aid today while Barangays Tipolo, Subangdaku, Banilad, Casuntingan and Bakilid will be tomorrow.

Senior citizens in Barangays Alang-alang, Umapad, Opao, Looc, Labogon and Paknaan will receive their financial assistance on Thursday, while those from Barangays Tabok, Pagsabungan, Tingub, Cubacub, Casili and Tawason will have it on Friday.

Cortes reminded them to bring their senior citizens ID.

He said senior citizens who died on Nov. 1 until the scheduled date of the distribution are still entitled of the assistance, while those who died from Oct. 31 backwards are entitled of mortuary assistance.

The cash assistance that will be not claimed after Dec. 28 will be forfeited. Assistance for the persons-with-disabilities (PWD) will be given on Dec. 19.

In Lapu-Lapu, Mayor Paz Radaza led the distribution of cash aid to senior citizens and PWDs last Saturday.

Gumercindo Aro, head of Lapu-Lapu Osca, said P3,000 were given to each senior citizen.

Lapu-Lapu has 21,355 senior citizens in the city, including those in Olango Island.
