NAGA HOSTS CVIRAA AGAIN
City of Naga to host Cviraa for the second straight year; Cebu City to send 900 delegates
THE 2017 Central Visayas Regional Athletic Association (Cviraa) will be on Feb. 12 to 17 in City of Naga, southern Cebu.
The qualifying event for the 2017 Palarong Pambansa will have additional events after the inclusion of wushu, billiard, wrestling and futsal, which were demo sports before.
Cebu City sports coordinator Zenaida Gocotano told Sun. Star Cebu that the new demo sports for the 2017 Cviraa and Palarong Pambansa are dancesports, pencak silat and aquatic gymnastics.
“City of Naga’s local government unit and Department of Education recently had a meeting. The final date for Cviraa has been set, the billeting centers and the playing venues are also checked,” said Gocotano.
The City of Naga will be the back-to-back host for the regional sporting conclave. On their first hosting, the swimming competition was held at the Cebu City Sports Center as the City of Naga’s swimming pool was still under construction.
For this year, all the events are going to be staged in City of Naga after the completion of the Olympics-size pool last June this year.
The event, which will draw delegates from Cebu, Bohol and Siquijor, will kick off at the Teodoro “Doring” Mendiola Sr. Sports Field and Oval.
Defending champions Cebu City Niños will send a 955-strong delegation with almost 500 athletes.
On the other hand, the final date for the 2017 Palarong Pambansa, which will be held in Antique Province, has yet to be announced.
The DepEd school calendar for school year 2016 to 2017, however, has penciled the event on April 10 to 16, which falls during the Holy Week.
Gocotano clarified that the calendar is not yet final, and the Palarong Pambansa will be played in May and not in April.
