-

THE Talamban Diamonds defeated Pythons, 14-7, in the championship game to clinch the 2016 Hinapakay sa Talamban Christmas Softball Tournament title at the Talamban Elementary School grounds last Sunday.

The Diamonds dominated the game and led from the start until the final and seventh inning to win their first title in the event, which was exclusive to players residing in Talamban, Cebu.

The Diamonds, who finished as the No.1 team in the elimination, marched to the championship game after outlasting the No.2 seed Primos, 11-4, in the semis round in the same day.

The No. 3 Pythons, meanwhile, felt the fatigue in the championship match as they had to eliminate Peacekeepers in the semis and beat Primos, 13-5, to advance to the final game against the Diamonds in the same day.

The two-month long event, which was organized by Rebels Baseball Club and Talamban Softball Club, used a pageplayoff format on the semis.

The newly-elected president of Talamban Softball Club Russ Bontuyan said that the next event for them is the Fiesta League Softball Tournament early next year, which is expected to draw 10 teams.

Alintone Adolfo of Rebels Baseball Club said that they are organizing softball events to promote batted sports in Cebu City through grassroots level.
