Rondina kin presents witnesses
CHR 7 says it can now proceed with investigation with the witnesses around, autopsy report
RELATIVES of slain suspected drug pusher Gener Rondina formally presented their four witnesses before the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) 7 yesterday.
Retired SPO4 Generoso Rondina, the victim’s father, and the four witnesses presented themselves before CHR 7 Chief Investigator Leo Villarino to have their affidavits admitted in their complaint.
In an interview, Rondina hopes that the testimony of the witnesses will help in solving the death of his son.
He also urged police officers who were involved in his death to admit to their crime.
“Ang amo lang nga makonsensya unta sila (We just hope for their conscience),” he told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday.
Sun.Star Cebu tried to interview the witnesses on what happened but they refused to be interviewed.
Leo Villarino, CHR 7 chief investigator, told Sun.Star Cebu that with Rondina’s witnesses now providing them testimonies on what happened, they can now proceed in conducting the investigation.
They are also awaiting other documentary evidence, including Rondina’s autopsy report that the CHR 7 plans to secure from the PNP Crime Laboratory.
Protection
Villarino said that they are willing to provide protection for Rondina’s witnesses if they are being threatened by the respondents or there is a likelihood that they could be threatened for testifying.
Once the affidavits of the witnesses have been assessed by CHR 7’s legal division, Villarino said they will be sending subpoenas to the policemen involved in the operation and get their counter-affidavit.
Shootout
Last month, Rondina was killed in an alleged shootout between antidrug operatives in Barangay Carreta in Cebu City.
But Rondina’s father claimed that his son attempted to surrender to operatives of the Regional Special Operations Group (RSOG) and Regional Anti-Illegal Drugs Task Group (RAIDSOTG) but was killed instead.
Rondina’s murder is but one of many suspected extrajudicial killings being investigated by CHR 7 since July this year.
Since the CHR organized Task Force EJKs earlier this year, more than 300 suspected EJKs have been monitored in Central Visayas.
