The wife of Matias Aznar IV reportedly told investigators that her husband had suicidal tendencies and attempted to commit suicide several times in the past, but he was prevented by his relatives from doing so

A SCION of a rich Cebuano family reportedly committed suicide inside his rest house in Sitio Pulang Yuta, Barangay Looc, Danao City.

Matias Aznar IV, reportedly one of the owners of a school in Cebu City, was believed to have used a handgun in shooting himself in the chest last Wednesday morning.

The 61-year-old businessman was found by a caretaker inside his room, which sits on a hill near his golf course.

Senior Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos, Danao City police station chief, said Aznar succumbed to gunshot wounds in the chest.

The police official said that according to the result of their initial investigation, it showed that there was no foul play involved in the incident.

The wife, however, reportedly told investigators that he had suicidal tendencies and attempted to commit suicide several times in the past, but he was prevented by his relatives from doing so.

Batobalonos said the businessman did not leave a suicide note, and the wife did not divulge his problems.

The wife told Batobalonos they planned to cremate the remains of Aznar.

“Dili na sila gusto ipa-autopsy (They decided not to submit his body to an autopsy),” said Batobalonos in a phone interview. “Nadawat na sa pamilya (They accepted his death).”

The 61-year-old businessman was found dead inside his room by the house caretaker, Jonathan Mangas, when the latter was putting the lights off.

The room was not locked, making it easy for Mangas to enter.

Police has invited Mangas for an inquiry and his statements reportedly showed no inconsistencies.

A team from the Crime Scene Investigation recovered caliber 9mm revolver with two empty shells and three bullets inside its cylinder and two cell phones.
