Teacher faces probe on death of student

Initial reports say teacher allegedly allowed boy to climb wall

-

THE teacher allegedly involved in the death of a student in a night high school in Barangay Inayawan could face criminal and administrative sanctions if found guilty, an official said yesterday.

Danilo Gudelasao, assistant Cebu City Schools Division superintendent, told Sun.Star Cebu that an investigation is currently ongoing to determine if the still-unidentified teacher allegedly allowed Clester Jake Nacional, 13, to climb a wall inside the classroom at the Inayawan Night High School, which led to his death.

Gudelasao admitted that he is not privy to the incident as he just arrived from a regional conference while Cebu City Schools Division superintendent Bianito Dagatan is currently in Baguio City for a national educational conference.

But he assured Nacional’s parents that the division is conducting a swift investigation to determine if the teacher in question is guilty or not.

Report

Gudelasao disclosed that the school’s principal and the teacher involved will be submitting a report to his office today.

“As second parents, we, teachers, are responsible for our students especially if anything happens to them inside the school,” he added.

Clester Jake, a resident of Barangay Cogon-Pardo in Cebu City, was reportedly ordered by his teacher to climb a wall on his classroom to get something when he suddenly fell.

He reportedly lost consciousness and was immediately brought to the Cebu City Medical Center, but died before arriving at the facility.

Autopsy

Earlier, Ronald Lerin, Cebu City Schools district supervisor, has requested Clester Jake’s family to allow an autopsy to determine how the boy died.

The school’s principal and the teacher initially submitted a report to Lerin, claiming that Clester Jake died after he fell from his seat while asleep.

Lerin vowed to conduct an investigation to determine if the teacher is liable for Clester Jake.
