Pescos on a mission

After winning in Baybay, Milo Cebu champ Rafael Pescos looks to win Cebu Marathon in Jan.

AFTER ruling the 1st Baybay City Marathon last week, Cebubased runner Rafael Pescos will suit for another 42-kilometer race in the 2017 Cebu Marathon, which is set on Jan. 8 next year at the Cebu Business Park.

The reigning Milo Marathon Cebu Leg men's champion Pescos will gear up in the men's 42K category--his first for the Cebu Marathon.

Pescos of Spectrum Runners Club is now getting ready for Cebu Marathon after winning the 42K race in Baybay City Marathon in 2 hours 38 minutes and 11 seconds.

Lizanne Abella, the third placer in the Milo Marathon Finals in Iloilo City, has also confirmed her participat­ion in the women's 42K category. Abella, also from Spectrum Cebu, won the women's division of Baybay City Marathon in 3:27:44.

Noel Tillor and Ruffa Sorongon are the defending champions in the men's and women's local 42K category.

The reigning four-time Milo Marathon Queen Mary Joy Tabal, meanwhile, said that she will not be joining Cebu Marathon this year as she's still on the transition period from her recent race.

The Cebu Marathon, which is organized and founded by Cebu Executive Runners Club (CERC), will be staging its 10th edition with a new route, covering cities of Cebu, Mandaue and LapuLapu. The run course in the previous editions only covered cities of Cebu and Talisay.

Aside from the 42K, the race will feature the men's and wom- en's 21K, 10K and 5K. The 42K and 21K runners will pass the Marcelo Fernan Bridge going to Lapu- Lapu City. The 5K and 10K participan­ts will run within Cebu City.

The running event is one of the activities of the annual Sinulog Festival.

Registrati­on fee is at P750 for the 5K, P1,100 for the 10K, P1,800 for the 21K and P2,100 for the 42K.
