Boxes containing ammo intercepted by ship’s security

-

HALF a million pesos worth of live ammunition bound for Ozamis City in Mindanao was intercepted by the security of a shipping line yesterday morning in Pier 1.

Twenty-six boxes of assorted bullets for low-powered and highpowered firearms were forwarded to the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7 Metro Cebu.

“The boxes were misdeclared. According to the shipment’s permit to transport, the contents were spare parts, plus the name of the shipper and the one that was written on the box was not the same. It’s suppose to coincide,” Supt. Fermin Armendarez III, head of the CIDG 7 Metro Cebu said in Cebuano.

When asked if there was an intent to hide the shipment of the bullets, Armendarez said the names should have coincided with the permits and the receipts that were attached to the boxes.

The contents were discovered when a torn box fell while the laborers were loading them on the ship, which was bound to depart at 7 last night.

The shipping line reported the incident to the CIDG and forwarded the boxes to the latter’s office for inventory.

The CIDG will check the name on the boxes to trace if the person is the owner of the ammunition.

The boxes contained bullets for armalite rifles, a 9mm pistol, a .22 pistol, a .38 pistol and a 40 Smith and Wesson pistol.

Armendarez said they are tracing the owner of the ammunition through the store where the bullets were bought.

Operatives are still investigating if the bullets were supposed to be sold in a gun store or used for other means. JOB
