An expanded reach for Cebu sports
After Davide doubles office’s budget, Cebu Province Sports Commission to expand program in 2017
THE Cebu Province Sports Commission (CPSC) aims to reach more aspiring athletes in the province through the grassroots program for next year.
“We made great strides towards the achievement of our grassroots program for the year 2016. We conducted a lot of training, especially for futsal, athletics, basketball and volleyball,” said CPSC executive director Atty. Ramil Abing. “I believe we visited every district for our grassroots program in 2016. I know kuwang pa kay medyo na apiki sa time and budget. For next year we will aim to reach more areas and potential kids.”
The CPSC will have more resources to implement their programs for next year; from P10 million in 2016, the office’s was doubled to P20 million for 2017.
“Gov. Hilario Davide III has been very supportive with our sport programs. The budget has been increased from P10 million in 2016 to P20 million for 2017,” he said.
With a bigger budget for next year, Abing said they will continue to visit more places in the province and will also incorporate advanced training for coaches and athletes.
“During our program in 2016, we saw a lot of natural talents in the province. They only lack the training and the equipment,” he said
CPSC is looking to develop athletes that will be sent to the Batang Pinoy, Philippine National Games, Palarong Pambansa and other regional and local sporting meets.
Abing said that it was a pretty good year for CPSC as they have touched base with various LGUs and made their grassroots development programs known.
Cebu Province showed its improvement in the 2016 Batang Pinoy National Finals in Tagum City after accumulating 18 gold medals, 18 silvers and 17 bronzes. The team was composed of only 80 athletes.
Cebu Province placed seventh in the ranking and had four more gold medals from last year. Last year the team only had 14 gold medals. RSC
