2-day anti-drug operations lead to arrest of 4 suspects

- FMG

FOUR drug suspects were arrested in the cities of Mandaue and LapuLapu in just two days.

In Mandaue, Cresenciano Gerana, 39, was arrested with illegal drugs and a firearm during a police checkpoint in Barangay Cubacub last Thursday dawn.

Gerana, a high-value target, was driving his motorcycle when he tried to elude the checkpoint by making a U-turn.

Mandaue Police Station 6 operatives were able to stop the suspect, who was not wearing a helmet at that time, and frisked him.

They found a .45 pistol tucked in his waistband, which resulted to his arrest.

They also seized 59 sachets, a pack and half a pack of suspected shabu worth more than P40,000 from him.

Pending cases

Chief Insp. Aldrin Villacampa, chief of Police Station 3, said Gerana, who is a resident of Barangay Tawason, was one of their targets after he escaped during a buy-bust in Cubacub a few months ago.

“He surrendered last July 1. In fact, he was the first to turn himself in, but he went back to his old ways,” Villacampa said in Cebuano.

He said they already filed five charges against the suspect for violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002; traffic laws; disobedience; and illegal possession of firearms.

Gerana also has pending cases for murder, carnapping and illegal drugs.

He was temporarily detained at the Police Station 3 detention cell.

At 7:35 p.m. on the same day, elements of the Lapu-Lapu City Intelligence Branch (CIB) led by Senior Insp. Joey Bicoy caught Jesus “Dennis” Maloloy-on and his cousin Dandie Maloloy-on in Punta Engaño.

The two, who are both 32, were arrested after they sold a sachet of shabu worth P300 to a police decoy in Sitio Mangal.

“New players”

Chief Insp. Mark Gifter Sucalit, chief of CIB, said Jesus and Dandie were identified as new players in the illegal drug trade in the area.

Another 10 sachets of suspected shabu worth P14,160, the buy-bust money and P600 cash were seized from Jesus. Dandie was also arrested for serving as his cohort.

They were detained at the Lapu-Lapu Police Office holding cell.

Last Friday, a team from the Lapu-Lapu Police Station 1 caught Jonas Aseo, 42, a seashell vendor, for selling prohibited drugs in Barangay Sabang in Olango Island.

The team led by Chief Insp. Miguel Andeza conducted the operation at 6:35 p.m. in Sitio Tuburan.

Police recovered four sachets of suspected shabu worth P1,888 and the buy-bust money from Aseo.
