Seized shabu ‘from Muntinlupa’

Illegal drugs confiscated from four suspects last Friday sourced from same person: CIDG 7

Habal-habal driver Roljoy Rosette and Joshiel de Jesus, who had no police record before their arrest, will be charged with violating Republic Act 9165

THE P30-million drug stash disguised as a Christmas gift came from the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City.

This was disclosed by Supt. Fermin Armendarez III, head of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 7.

He said their anti-drugs campaign is relentless and will continue during the holiday season.

“We can’t wait for tomorrow. We must conduct operations every day. Successful arrests also depend on timing since drug person- alities have gotten wise and have become extra careful so they don’t get caught during an entrapment or a buybust,” he said in Cebuano.

He said they still have to interrogate habal-habal driver Roljoy Rosette, 33, and Joshiel de Jesus, 28, a construction worker who are still in shock after their arrest last Friday night.

Need for validation

The two men were caught with the Christmas gift that contained the suspected shabu on 6th St., North Reclamation Area in Barangay Carreta, Cebu City.

“If they name any protectors, it would be treated as highly confidential. We will need to validate the information because it might turn out to be false,” he said in Cebuano.

The two women who were arrested hours before Rosette and de Jesus also told police that they got their drugs from the same person in Muntinlupa.

“They share the same source. Apparently, they would make a phone call and someone would meet them,” Armendarez said.

“We need to investigate if Rosette and de Jesus were the same persons we transacted with over the phone. We need to check their cellphones,” he said in Cebuano.

The CIDG 7 will also check the two men’s phones to trace their supplier of illegal drugs.

Biggest haul

Armendarez said they spoke in Cebuano over the phone.

With the two arrests last Friday, the CIDG 7 was able to seize P31.8 million worth of suspected shabu, making it the unit’s biggest haul of the year.

“Our government is very serious (in the campaign against illegal drugs),” Armendarez said.

That is why, he said, drug pushers are having a hard time selling shabu, especially with the daily drug raids and arrests.

The suspects’ source in Muntinlupa is reportedly not linked to drug lords in Central Visayas.

It was the first arrest for Rosette and de Jesus last Friday night. They don’t have any police record.

The two men will be charged with violating Section 5 of Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, before the City Prosecutor’s Office. JOB
