Let me see my son: Barok’s mom

Suspect’s mother issues affidavit to support case filed vs. cops who ‘killed’ Barok’s brother

THE mother of suspected drug lord Alvaro “Barok” Alvaro wants the management of Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC) to allow her to visit him in time for Christmas.

Emma Alvaro told Sun.Star Cebu yesterday that she had asked their lawyer Jonah John Ungab to file a motion in court to let them visit Barok inside the provincial jail.

“He (Barok) now wants to change his ways. He wants to reform his life,” Emma said in Cebuano.

Emma also executed an affidavit to support the complaint she filed against 17 policemen from Danao City in relation to the death of Barok’s younger brother, Medz, who was killed last Aug. 11 during a police operation.

Police killed Medz and his trusted aid Ronie Castro in an alleged shootout in Sitio Pulangyuta, Barangay Looc, Danao City.

Police said Medz had taken over his brother’s drug business after the latter was jailed.

Senior Insp. Alejandro Batobalonos, Danao City Police chief, had said they conducted the buy-bust when they learned that Medz and Barok’s wife were still selling drugs.

In an interview, Emma said they have not seen Barok since October because the jail management is very strict in accepting visitors.

She said Barok has stopped his illegal drug trade.

“I will continue my fight to get justice for Medz,” said Emma. Medz, 27, is survived by his five children and wife.

Emma, 68, admitted that Medz used illegal drugs but didn’t sell them.

“If he was (a drug pusher), Medz would not have asked money from me and food from my store in order to feed his family,” said Emma.

Barok was said to be the trusted man of slain suspected drug lord Jeffrey “Jaguar” Diaz.

A team of policemen from Cebu tried to arrest Barok in Las Piñas City, when they got into a shootout that killed Diaz and his bodyguard.

The Danao police considered Barok as a level two drug pusher who could sell 200 grams of shabu per week with an estimated street value of P2.36 million.

Barok is facing charges of illegal gun possession and of violating Republic Act 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

He pleaded not guilty during his arraignment before Judge Jerry Dicdican of the Regional Trial Court Branch 25 in Danao City last June 12.

Prosecutor Ferdinand Collantes charged Barok with violating the antiillegal drugs law after he was arrested with 16.74 grams of suspected shabu in Barangay Catmon-Daan, Catmon, Cebu last April 10, 2015.
