Color-coding in Mandaue City

Traffic scheme implemented only for public utility jeepneys from Lapu-Lapu in certain streets

-

THE Mandaue City Government has implemented a color-coding scheme for public utility jeepneys (PUJ) from LapuLapu City that pass M.C. Briones St.

This is to decongest traffic on B.B. Cabahug St., which is one of the roads going to Parkmall, said Glenn Antigua, chief for operations of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team).

Signs were placed on A. C. Cortes Ave., near the Maguikay flyover, before vehicles turn left to M.C. Briones.

New routes

Jeepneys from LapuLapu with a blue conduction sticker will only be allowed to turn left to M.C. Briones from Thursday to Saturday.

PUJs with a red sticker can only pass the street from Sunday to Wednesday.

Jeepneys from Lapu-

PUJs that are not scheduled to pass M.C. Briones St. will only travel from Lapu-Lapu City to Parkmall

Lapu usually pass M.C. Briones St. to bring passengers to JCentre Mall.

Antigua said PUJs that are not scheduled to pass the highway will only travel from LapuLapu to Parkmall.

Team has implemented the color-coding scheme only in that area and only for Lapu-Lapu PUJs.

Antigua said they will have to check whether they can implement this on other roads in the city.

“We are trying to look at the traffic scheme in areas with more vehicles,” he said in Cebuano.

Team also plans to implement a zipper lane on M. L. Quezon St. in Barangay Maguikay and on A. S. Fortuna St.

Addressing a problem

There is a high number of vehicles in those areas because of northbound vehicles coming from Cebu City, according to Antigua.

He plans to bring this up to the City Traffic Management Board.

“That is the solution that we see so the volume of cars on the said streets will be lessened,” he said in Cebuano.

A zipper lane is currently implemented at the intersection of UN Ave. and M. C. Briones St. to decongest traffic in the area.

The zipper method is an approach that allows vehicles on the Butuanon Bridge to pass the other lane going to UN Ave. while vehicles that use the opposite lane are waiting for their turn to go.
