Star bowler makes her year count
Cabusas wins collegiate title of Nat’l Youth bowlfest
CEBUANA bowler Xyrra Cabusas of BTA-Prima ruled the women's collegiate division of the 2016 Philippine Bowling Federation (PBF) National Youth Annual at the E-Lanes Bowling Center in San Juan last Dec. 26.
Cabusas, a member of the national youth bowling team, scored a total of 1,397 pinfalls in an eight-game series to beat Allyssa Dela Rosa and Rjoy DavalSantos for the title. Dela Rosa came up with 1,378 for second place, while Daval-Santos settled for third place with 1,372.
The 21-year-old Cabusas, who's on her final year as a member of the youth team, finished the game with an average of 174.63. She fired 191 in the seventh for the day's best and scored 184 on the fifth game.
The civil engineering student of University of San Carlos (USC) played steady in the rest of the games with 172, 159, 177, 174, and scored 170 twice.
Completing the women's Top 5 were Bea Santarin of MTBA and May Malvar of TBAM-Prima who scored 1,299 and 1,247.
Enzo Hernandez won the men's division with 1,610, beating Mervin Tan and Lorenz Tugade who put up 1,600 and 1,513, respectively.
“I did not win in this event last year but I got the 1st runner-up award in 2014. This is my last year as a youth player so I'll make the most of it,” said Cabusas.
Cabusas is playing in the 2016 National Youth Championships, which is slated until Dec. 30 also at the E-Lanes Bowling Center in San Juan. She's competing in the singles, doubles, team and masters events.
Cabusas was part of the national youth team that represented the country in the 2016 World Youth Bowling Championships in Lincoln, Nebraska, USA last July 24 to Aug. 3.
