Neda presents 25-yr. vision
Government’s Ambisyon Natin 2040 takes aim at hunger, better conditions
Neda 7 Director Efren Carreon said the vision will be used as an anchor of the new Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022
THE National Economic and Development Authority (Neda) yesterday presented yesterday “Ambisyon Natin 2040,” a 25-year vision that aims to end hunger and to improve the people’s standard of living.
Neda 7 Director Efren Carreon said that although Ambisyon Natin 2040 was initiated by Neda in 2015, President Rodrigo Duterte recently issued Executive Order 5 adopting the program.
“Over the years, we have come to realize that many development constraints affecting the country cannot be done, cannot be solved by one single administration,” said Carreon.
He said that Neda thought of a vision that will become the basis for planning to encompass several administrations and to ensure that development problems and constraints will be addressed on a more sustainable manner.
“So, our ambition is a 25-year vision for the Philippines. We are hoping that this will become a factor that will unite the Filipinos. But this is not yet a plan. It’s only a vision,” said Carreon.
He said that Ambisyon Natin 2040 will become an anchor for development planning across administrations.
He was referring to the new Philippine Development Plan 2017-2022.
“So, when we talk about 25 years, we talk about more or less four administra- tions. We are happy that when the new administration came, President Duterte issued an executive order adopting it,” Carreon said.
All government agencies and the private sector will be urged to provide inputs in the preparation of the Philippine Development Plan (PDP).
“This vision will also become a vehicle for government in engaging in international development partners, if we access some development assistance. The longterm vision can be a document that will help us engage and define our needs and what we would like to do in the country in the coming years,” he said.
Carreon said that Neda has a Longterm Vision process. Under this process, there is the advisory committee composed of representatives from the governments, private sector, the academe, and civil society to guide the overall im- plementation of the visioning exercise, Carreon said.
There will be public consultations with marginalized groups and a national survey. Aside from consultations, there will be technical studies by a thematic study team.
And to maximize information dissemination, there will be communication and advocacy through online social media engagement and public forums.
