100 ‘Santas’ give out candies to Lapu folks
Today’s schedule in Kiddieland will have children from Barangays Basak, Buaya and Maribago from 8-10 a.m.; Barangays Pusok, Calawisan and Marigondon from noon to 2 p.m.; and Barangays Pajo, Looc and Agus from 4-6 p.m.
AT LEAST 100 volunteers dressed in Santa Claus outfits went around LapuLapu City and distributed candies to kids and parents yesterday.
The activity was just part of the program lined up by the Lapu-Lapu City Government this Yuletide season.
Today, the City will put up a Kiddieland at the Hoops Dome in Barangay Gun-ob to give fun and entertainment to the kids through free inflatable rides and arcade games.
The City allocated P1 million for Kiddieland and other activities intended for the kids this year.
This has been the City’s tradition as a treat to the kids during Christmas.
Nicole Balao, Kiddieland coordinator and executive assistant of the City Tourism Office, said that the “Walking Santas” went to the city’s plaza, public market, Mactan Liberty Shrine and under the Marcelo B. Fernan Bridge to distribute candies.
Last Dec. 16, the City Government conducted a “Santa Bike” program in Olango Island where volunteers dressed up as Santa Claus and used bicycles in going around the island to distribute candies and chocolates.
Balao said that students, various schools’ Supreme Student Government officials and youth from different barangays volunteered to act as Santa Claus.
Aside from the Walking Santas, there will be more inflatable rides that kids from different villages will enjoy.
“Since there are more kids in the mainland and we really want to accommodate everyone, we scheduled the children’s visit to the Kiddieland,” said Balao.
The Kiddieland will be in Hoops Dome until tomorrow.
It is open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
