Finding that driving force

-

The entire human race stirs because of one word… motivation. Webster defines it: A stimulus or influence, incentive, drive. Motivation is behind in every successful endeavor.

In our relationship with the world as we interact, we are guided by our own or other people’s motivation. The drive is the biggest consideration in making our New Year’s resolution.

While motivation is a positive thing, inducement, enticement added to it, gives it malice and this is where we will find the gray area. A reconciliation of the heart and mind will determine the goodness of the influence.

What is synonymous with intention? Motivation. While making our resolve, what do we intend to do in ensuring that our resolution is carried through?

My son declared on Christmas Eve that he would no longer drink hard liquor or alcohol. He will only drink red or white wine which is good for the heart. That appears to be his New Year’s resolution.

“I have observed that if I drink alcohol the day before I go mountain biking, my performance is not as good,” he said. I then thought: “So you are only motivated by your mountain biking performance?” I then asked: “What if you decide to quit your chosen sport, will you continue with your resolve?” He replied: “Oh yes.” Just like any mother, a son’s determination to quit drinking made me smile. It is therefore in the spirit that we are properly motivated.

Behind every remittance made by our overseas filipino workers (OFWs) is motivation. They want to give their families a better life, a better future. Statistics will show that many of these dreams do come true. Should you make a count in the existing subdivisions, most of the occupants are families of OFWs.

Owning a house is their first priority, then a family vehicle. On top of that of course is their children’s education. Then comes business for their parents so their extended families will be able to have an income of their own and not be totally dependent on the OFW’s earnings.

Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach, Pinay weightlifter from Zamboanga Hidilyn Diaz, boxer Manny Paquiao have their own tools in joining the pageant, and sports events respectively, but their motivation is the same and that is to bring honor to the country.

How about you? What is your motivation to get up each day and be a part of this accelerated and expanded information technology-based world?
