Pyroworks: Tips on safe fireworks handling

-

It’s that time of the year to paint the skies again. Fireworks, beautiful as they are, can be dangerous and must be handled carefully. Carelessness with fireworks can result in all kinds of accidents. As a household name for pyrotechnic perfection, Pyroworks would like to remind users of these safety precautions:

Stay outdoors

Playing with fireworks inside the house or a building could cause injuries or result in a fire.

Have water

Always have water nearby. It’s best to be prepared for anything. One will never know when something might catch fire.

Follow instructions

Remember, the manufacturers put instructions for a reason. Read them carefully and follow ac- cordingly. Use fireworks only as intended.

Keep distance

Do not crowd around the launching area. Spectators should stay at a safe distance from the shooter.

Leave the dud

Do not attempt to reignite a failed firework. It might not be dead at all and may ignite when someone is near it. One should wait for 20 minutes then soak the dud in water. This can be minimized when one buys from a reputable supplier.

Don’t drink and light

Fireworks are flammable and explosive, and therefore should not be handled under the influence of alcohol.

Watch the kids

Generally, children under the age of 12 should not be allowed to handle any kind of fireworks. Adult supervision is highly encouraged for older kids.

Pyroworks also sug- gests that handlers start their display with something small such as fountains or toy fireworks, then build it up from there with something that will surprise the audience— with aerial shells or cakes.

Pyroworks International Inc. is a Cebu- based pyrotechnic company. The company is internationally recognized by the International Fireworks Society and certified by Pyrotechnics Guild International Inc. The team broke the Guinness World Record for the “most firework rockets launched in 30 seconds” in 2010.
