We cannot predict the future

-

We are all hoping, that somehow, the scattered pieces of our beloved Philippines will fall into place in the year 2017. We cannot predict but we can pray.

There are many of us who are asking for God’s intervening hand to help us straighten the chaos we find ourselves in.

In the Old Testament we read about the many times that the prophets approached God to aid distraught armies that were terribly outnumbered by stronger forces. Because of their faithfulness to God, aid came to them.

We have hope on our side. Remember the sneaky way the Marcoses buried their father in the Libingan ng mga Bayani? This calculated plan backfired. Instead of people forgetting the atrocities committed by their family, everyone who remembered the horrible times woke up.

Our millennials are out on the streets too and these are what bother many of us because we see a divisiveness coming and we worry about their wellbeing.

A group of misguided men are acting as if they own the Philippines. Those who quickly jumped the fence are now quacking like ducks themselves. The greed for self-aggrandizement is showing on the faces of those in Congress and those in the Senate who want to wiggle their way into the circle of power. How sad! We would like to ask these men who they think they are fooling when they say they only want what is best for the Philippines. My answer to their excuse? Please tell that to outsiders who cannot see what you people have become.

You need to listen to the people in the silence of your room and at the same time look at the changes on your faces in your mirrors. What is inside you is seen on the outside.

For the few who believe they can do anything to the Philippines, remember the piece “I am a Filipino” written by the late Carlos Romulo; that the Filipino still exists. He keeps the Philippines afloat not from pork barrel funds but by the sweat of his brow.

Christmas 2016 was good for the poor. Churches led by volunteer Filipinos sold food after early dawn masses. The proceeds of the sale went to the poor. Other churches still led by this stouthearted Filipino had rummage sales or had Christmas trees with tags stating names of the poor who will get their gifts on Jan. 6, the Feast of the Three Kings.

The Filipino knows that fidelity to God is the strongest factor which will bring help from a loving God. We are trusting in faith to carry us in the year 2017. A happy New Year to all.
