THE cities of Mandaue and Lapu-Lapu are now accepting applications and renewals of business permits and payments through one-stop shops.

In Lapu-Lapu, the one-stop shop business processing is held in the Lapu-Lapu City Hall. It started last Jan. 2 and will be open not only on weekdays but also on holidays, Saturdays and Sundays until Jan. 20.

In an interview, LapuLapu City Mayor Paz Radaza said they are doing this for the business owners’ convenience.

“We started even on a holiday because there was no work and the business owners and representatives might file their application and renewal of permit as well as payment for their taxes,” Radaza said.

Aside from this, the mayor did not want the people to wait for Jan. 20, which is the last day of the processing of the permits.

City Treasurer Elenita Catagcatag announced that there will be penalties for payments made beyond Jan. 20.

Assessment

There will be a 25 percent surcharge of the total assessment and 2 percent interest per month.

There will also be “additional penalty for non- compliance of previous year’s deficiency,” said Catagcatag.

The City Government had called up the top taxpayers of Lapu-Lapu and informed them about the start of the permit processing.

Transactions

From Monday to Friday, the transactions will be made from 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Transactions on a holiday, Saturday and Sunday will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Radaza said the time of transaction may be extended if there are more clients.

The City Government recorded about 12,000 businesses in Lapu-Lapu last year.

Radaza expected that this will increase in 2017.

“With this, we expect more income for the city and more employment for the Oponganons,” the mayor said.

Activity

The Mandaue City Government started the same activity inside the City Sports and Cultural Complex yesterday.

The one-stop renewal of business permits will also last until the 20th of this month.

According to the City Public Information Office (PIO), those with one or two business permits to process are advised to go to the sports complex while those with three or more businesses will still process these inside the City Hall.

City Administrator Danilo Aldmendras said they will install a new system that will fast-track the processing of business permits and real property taxes.

“This initiative is intended to lessen the length of processing time and to give more convenience to the City’s payers. Last year, about 8,000 clients were served in a span of six months,” the PIO said.
