Habal-habal driver slain after dropping passenger off in Busay
A CONFLICT over money reportedly drove a 16-yearold boy to kill a 30-yearold man on Abellana St., Barangay Suba, Cebu City before dawn yesterday.
Jefferson Leoligao died from a gunshot wound in the back after he was attacked by his neighbor Mark (real name of the minor withheld) at 1:30 a.m yesterday.
According to the victim’s nephew, Leoligao was playing a computer game when Mark appeared and shot him.
Leoligao was able to run a few meters away from the gunman before he fell and died. Mark escaped. In an investigation, the Homicide Section learned that prior to the attack, Mark entrusted his money to Leoligao for safekeeping.
However, when Mark tried to get his money back, Leoligao reportedly refused.
Operatives of the Police Station 6 launched a follow-up operation against Mark but they failed to arrest him.
Meanwhile, a habalhabal driver was also killed in broad daylight by an unidentified motorcycle-riding gunman on Nivel Hills, Barangay Busay, Cebu City yesterday afternoon.
Police identified the victim as Edwardo General of the neighboring Barangay Sudlon 2.
The Homicide Section received the shooting alarm at 12:50 p.m.
The killing occurred when General went to Busay to drop off his passenger. The gunman who was also riding a motorcycle arrived and shot General.
“Among gisunod nga motibo ani kay personal grudge kay naa ni siya’y nakaaway pila ka semana na ang nakalabay kay nag- inilugay og pasahero (We are looking into a personal grudge as the possible motive because the victim reportedly had a fight with another driver a few weeks ago over issues on getting passengers),” said PO2 Francel Buling.
The victim reportedly worked as a construction worker and drove a motorcycle-for-hire as his part time job.
Residents near the crime scene said that they heard a gunshot but did not see the faces of the gunman and his cohort who drove the getaway motorcycle.
